Carbon has exceptional technical properties, which makes the potential applications of fiber-reinforced composite components highly versatile. For this reason, it is used in a wide variety of fields. It exhibits very high resistance to chemicals. It is completely corrosion-resistant and is not affected by most alkalis and acids. The most frequently utilized positive property is its particularly high specific tensile strength, which is advantageous when the goal is to reduce weight and mass using carbon fiber-reinforced plastics. Consequently, these components are significantly lighter than metallic materials. Furthermore, carbon possesses outstanding elastic properties due to its high fatigue strength.

  • High strength and high stiffness at low specific weight
  • Largely chemically inert
  • Electrically conductive
  • X-ray transparency in CFRP components
  • Thermally stable, non-melting
  • Adjustable thermal expansion
  • Very good damping properties
  • Precise and direct force transmission
  • High-quality surfaces

Applications:

Applications include aircraft manufacturing (e.g., carbon fiber covers and fairings), motorsports, wind energy, medical technology (e.g., prosthetics or wheelchair components), boat and shipbuilding, and the sports equipment industry. It is also used in the manufacture of high-strength components in model making, e.g., carbon fiber frame parts and carbon brake discs.
