Laminating Resin

A brief guide to laminating.
First, thoroughly mix the epoxy resin with the hardener by weight and pour into a new cup so that the resin mixes completely at the bottom and edges. Then apply the resin to the reinforcement fiber in one direction to avoid air pockets. For a second coat, allow the resin to cure until the surface is still tacky but no longer stringy. You can check this by touching it with your finger, but always wear gloves.
If you need a completely smooth surface for your project, we recommend applying two coats at the end. The first coat should then be allowed to cure completely. Don't forget to sand it down. Alternatively, you can use tear-off fabric as shown in our video before applying the next coat.
Processing instructions
The following points must be observed in order to achieve the best possible results:
A working environment with a temperature between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius is crucial. It is equally important to ensure that the humidity does not exceed 70%. It is also essential to adhere precisely to the mixing ratio of resin and hardener, as exact dosing is required for optimal results. Therefore, when working with epoxy resin, a (letter) scale should be used to measure the resin-hardener ratio accurately. Before starting the application, all components should be mixed thoroughly. If you follow these steps, nothing will stand in the way of your successful epoxy resin project.

Almost all types of reinforcing fibers can be laminated with epoxy resin. However, it is advisable to ensure that glass fiber mats are not used, as these cannot be processed well with epoxy resin. Epoxy resin does not contain any solvents that dissolve the binder in glass fiber mats.
The main differences between resin systems lie in their viscosity, the color of the resin, the mixing ratio, the processing time, and the viscosity of the hardener.
Please note that cured resins can only be removed by mechanical cleaning, such as sanding. Acetone can be used to remove uncured resin residue from tools. Ensure that the tools are sufficiently dry to prevent contamination in new containers.
