Sandwich Material

3D|CORE™ is a patented honeycomb structure that is incorporated into a closed-cell PET or XPS foam core. The honeycombs, which are connected to each other by small webs, run through the entire foam core and enable a high degree of flexibility in the core. There are cavities between the individual honeycomb foam bodies, which are filled with a matrix consisting of synthetic resin, among other things, and support the filling process as an integrated flow aid.

Foam types

PET

PET is a polymer that is often used in packaging. It is a cost-effective foam system for sandwich constructions made from extruded polyethylene terephthalate.

XPS

XPS is a cost-effective foam system for sandwich constructions made from extruded polystyrene.

Structures

We have three structures to improve the technical properties, flexibility of the core and strength of the outer fibre layers of the sandwich structure.

3D Core Hexagon Improvement of 3D|CORE compared to normal foam cores: technical properties of the core increased by 100%, flexibility increased by 100%, peel strength of the fibre layers increased by 100%.

3D Core Rhombus Improvement of 3D|CORE compared to normal foam cores: technical properties approx. 200%, flexibility approx. 200% more, and peel strength of the fibre layer approx. 150%

3D Core Delta Improvement of 3D|CORE compared to normal foam core by 400-500%, flexibility by 300% more, and peel strength of the fibre layer by approx. 200%

3D|CORE – the structure at the core

Simply put, these are holes in foam.

These holes form a hexagonal structure or variations thereof. During the manufacture of composite parts, the structure is filled with resin. The cured resin in the structure and the foam core form a hybrid with excellent technical properties. All structures are based on the shape of a hexagon, also known as a hexagon. The structures filled with epoxy resin in the foam result in a very economical hybrid core system with excellent technical properties. This hybrid core can be used as an economical alternative to high-performance foam cores.
