Slip-resistant – The carbon fabric is slip-resistant, meaning cut pieces do not shed fibers, and processing is significantly easier because the yarns shift less relative to one another. The fabric can be shaped to fit the mold using heat (a pressing tool) before being impregnated with resin. The fabrics remain highly flexible and impregnable even after this process.
Carbon has outstanding technical properties, making the potential applications of fiber-reinforced composite components highly versatile. For this reason, it is used in a wide variety of fields. It exhibits very high resistance to chemicals. It is completely corrosion-resistant and is not attacked by most alkalis and acids. The most frequently utilized positive property is the particularly high specific tensile strength, which is advantageous when the weight and mass of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics need to be reduced. Consequently, these components are significantly lighter than metallic materials. Furthermore, carbon possesses outstanding elastic properties due to its high fatigue strength.
- High strength and high stiffness despite low density
- Largely chemically inert
- Electrically conductive
- X-ray transparency in CFRP components
- Thermally stable, non-melting
- Adjustable thermal expansion
- Excellent damping properties
- Precise and direct force transmission
- High-quality surfaces
Applications:
Applications include aircraft construction (e.g., carbon fiber covers and fairings), motorsports, wind energy, medical technology (e.g., prosthetics or wheelchair components), boat and shipbuilding, and the sporting goods industry. As well as in the manufacture of high-strength components in model making, e.g., carbon fiber frame parts and carbon brake discs.
