Swimming pond or swimming pool – which is better for me?

Have you ever wondered whether a swimming pond or a swimming pool would be better for you? The decision depends on your individual preferences. If you love nature, a swimming pond may be the better choice, while a swimming pool stands for elegance and a modern look. Remember to weigh up all the arguments carefully before making a decision.

Whichever type of pool you choose, we hope you enjoy swimming in it.

If you want to opt for natural bathing fun, you can choose between a swimming pond and a natural pool. One advantage of a natural pool is that there is more space for swimming and bathing, as there are no plants in the pool. In contrast, the water in the pool remains crystal clear all year round, while a swimming pond can occasionally become cloudy. If you want to enjoy your swimming fun without any worries, a natural pool is a safe choice.

The size of the swimming pool depends on individual requirements. In Germany, a building permit is required if the water volume exceeds 100 cubic meters. A swimming pool with a diameter of 8 meters and a depth of 1.5 meters has a volume of 75 cubic meters and therefore does not require a permit. However, if you are unsure whether a building permit is required, it is advisable to check with your local building authority.

The optimal placement of the pool for warm water. To ensure that the water in your pool is at a pleasant temperature in the morning, it should face southeast. This way, it can be optimally heated by the sun during the long day. However, you should also consider sun protection when swimming. Trees nearby provide shade, but they also bring dirt with their leaves.

Planning the pool location: Avoiding the need to lay new electricity and water pipes. To avoid the unnecessary laying of new electricity and water pipes, it is advisable to plan the position of the pool close to existing pipes. When laying the water pipes, it is important to allow for a slight slope towards the pool. This prevents water from remaining in the pipes and freezing in winter when temperatures drop below zero, which can lead to burst pipes and high repair costs.

GRP stands for glass-reinforced plastic and is a composite material made of fibers or fabric and polyester or epoxy resins. The fibers provide the necessary stability, while the resin is selected according to the intended use.

If you are looking for a cost-effective option, a swimming pool is the better choice. However, a swimming pond is cheaper to maintain, as there are no costs for chlorine and regular cleaning.
